... English oak
We use only English Oak sourced from sustainably managed woodlands for our Oak timber frames. We support British forestry by endeavouring to use homegrown English Oak wherever possible for all our projects.

As the Oak is used green in its unseasoned state, very little energy is consumed in its processing, hence very little CO2 is emitted. As a rough comparison, 5-6 times more energy is required (per Kg) to extract, process and transport concrete than locally sourced green Oak. The timber used in our Oak frames acts as a carbon sink, locking up atmospheric CO2 for the duration of its use. In addition, tannins in the heartwood of the Oak impart a natural durability that means no additional chemical preservatives need to be used on the timber therefore reducing the buildings toxicity.
